Catching Up With Lana
Days 142 – Sao Paulo, Brazil
Quick day today as we are moving on once again, this time on the overnight bus to Foz Do Igasu, the Brazilian side of Igazu Falls. But before we left town, we got the chance to meet up with a friend, Lana from London who has been living in Brazil for awhile.
The plan was to meet and wander through the beautiful Parque Ibirapuera. Looking at the map, you just followed a main road and 20 minutes later, viola! But as we were newbies and Lana had just moved to Sao Paulo, we managed to get completely turned around and on the other side of a major highway from the park! Finally, after an insane game of chicken with the cars (and one nice guy who held up traffic for us!), we made it!
So because of our early bus we just about had time for a beer and some ice cream before making our way back to the hostel. But it was great to have a good catchup and gossip session with Lana! It’s been ages since we’ve seen anyone from home, and you really miss being able to talk to people who you’ve known for longer than a few days. Also, it was really interesting to see what life was life for an expat living in South America. It sounds difficult, but pretty cool as well.
We’ve liked Brazil loads more than we had expected to! The word we’d gotten from other travellers was that it was unsafe and expensive. We were careful, as we try to always be, but we never had any issues here, and it wasn’t that pricey either. Food was actually pretty cheap! So, I think in the future, we definitely want to come back, spend more time in Rio and spend some time in the north. Hmm, another trip?
