Jon and Erika – The Intrepid Explorers
Jon and Erika are two young professionals that live in London and have given up their jobs in order to explore the world and really live for a year!
Erika grew up in the USA with a flight attendant mother who gave her the exploring bug early. She took six months in 2002 and headed off alone to Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia, a trip which taught her loads and encouraged her to move to the UK and experience living abroad. She has visited 54 countries, and 48 US states, and loves to see places off the beaten track.
Jon started travelling later, but he is the adventurous one, regularly throwing himself off tall things and looking for the next big challenge. In 2010, he climbed Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and is trying to see if they can fit in a short detour to Everest Base Camp while in Asia.
Erika and Jon got married on a beach in Thailand in 2010, and this is their extended honeymoon. Their hobbies are static trapeze and aerial silks, and hope to train a bit as they travel.
Thomas Jansson – The Intrepid Mascot
Thomas Jansson is a lemur from Skansen, Stockholm, Sweden. He became the Intrepid Mascot after a long search to find the perfect travelling companion.
Thomas Jansson was found in the gift shop of Skansen, an open-air museum in Stockholm that showcases Sweden’s heritage and natural history. There are reproductions of Swedish farms, and enclosures of native Swedish animals. Somewhat bizarrely, there is also an Africa House, where you can walk through a lemur exhibit, and see monkeys, baboons, and other animals not remotely associated with Sweden. Why? I dont know. But after spotting Thomas Jansson on the shelf, we realised that any lemur so far from home has to be pretty darn intrepid.
